Art : Zootopia Wars

5/5/2016

This time last year, I hadn't seen any Star Wars movie. I'd somehow missed them as a kid, missed them as a teenager when the prequels came out, and never gotten around to catching up with them until Summer last year, when Moose and I were due to go to 'Secret Cinema Presents: The Empire Strikes Back'. I watched 'A New Hope' on the way to London, and then later made sure I watched 'Return of the Jedi' before we all watched 'The Force Awakens'.

This year was the first year I could celebrate May the 4th - aka Star Wars Day - as someone who had actually seen the films. Go me! So, to celebrate, I made sure I finished this silly little painting I've had in my head for a while now. Most of my crossover art makes sense in the scheme of things. This one... not so much. I blame the fact that Zootopia has taken over my life lately. And, heck, any excuse to draw animals doing people things!

Art : Bounce n' Pounce!

Here's a new piece I doodled a while ago and finally got around to finishing up! I've called it 'Bounce n' Pounce' because both Rengar and Gnar are pretty bouncy and, well, pouncy! I'd say there's no escaping these two! I wanted a very simple background, and I ended up using some brushes from Katikut for the grass (as well as *whispers* the default Photoshop grass brush, don't judge!)

Prints are available, and I'll of course have this for sale at MCM Expo this May! I've also uploaded it onto my Redbubble site as I think it makes a killer shirt design!!

Art : Tanks for Being My Friend

My next event is BUCK, which is a convention dedicated to the new series of My Little Pony. I've vended there every year since it began and unfortunately this year is their last. I'm super excited to get there and sell some art, though, and here's my newest piece! I'm actually *blushes* really really behind with watching the latest series. I stopped at the start of series five and just never started up again, so I've been making a point of catching up before the weekend! One of the first episodes I saw was 'Tanks for the Memories', which I found just so touching and sad even though Rainbow Dash was acting like a bit of an idiot! So, I doodled up this! And I think it makes a really awesome looking t-shirt, too, so here it is on Redbubble!

Here's a couple of silly phone camera wips, I need to get into the habit of taking more screenshots and photos of work in progress art because I know people find it really fun to look at.

Art : Chaos Buddies!

I'm brand new to Wander Over Yonder! It's a cartoon I've avoided for a while because it seemed a little too stylised and 'wacky' for me, but my friend Luke sent me a song featuring Lord Dominator and I was absolutely hooked. She's just the coolest character ever! And given her penchant for disorder and just plain being mean for no reason, I thought she'd be the perfect buddy for fellow Disney XD toon bad guy, Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls!

Please check out the video and remember to subscribe if you like my content! I'm slowly trying to grow my Youtube channel. Very slowly.
And here's the final image! I'm super happy with it! I've found that most people recognise Bill Cipher but nobody really knows who Lord Dominator is, for shame! Still, it's a crossover I'll stand by. It makes perfect sense.

Every year I say I'm going to draw my character Reaperfox more, and every year I manage to... not. However, I made a point of creating a little Christmas doodle for my Youtube channel, which you can see below.

Art : Roses & Pearls

My first and most certainly not last Steven Universe painting! I could write an absolute essay about how much I adore this cartoon and how much Pearl means to me but instead I’ll just tell you guys how much I love being part of a fandom again (it’s been ages!) I’ve been struggling a lot lately with my art and it has been a really difficult year, creatively. I sell at several conventions every year and try to release new prints and work each time I go, but I’ve just not been able to produce anything of any worth (in my opinion) lately and it’s hit me like a punch to the gut.

Steven Universe came at exactly the right time, with exactly the right message, and from exactly the right fandom, and I’m absolutely buzzing with creativity, inspiration and, frankly, sheer joy. For the first time in over a year, I am excited about selling at a convention again. For the first time in over a year, I'm creating passionate art again.

I love it.

I've posted these on Tumblr before but I think they're seriously cool so I'm uploading them here as well. I love seeing how other people work, by watching timelapse videos or seeing step by step photos, so I thought I'd share these from some paintings I've created over the years!

It was only a matter of time before I drew the two cutest League of Legends critters together. I can't play Gnar to save my LIFE but he is my absolute favourite champion. I mean, look at this cutie.

Glittery Watercolours

I found a new pad of watercolour paper I'd never yet even touched, and decided I'd take a break from commissions to try it out! The paints are a cheap brand I found in The Works years ago, but I love them because they are super glittery! It's quite subtle in real life until it catches the light, and then it just looks so pretty, and perfect for a cartoony little unicorn!

Art : Making Marker Cards!

3/4/2014

So, I'm primarily a digital artist, but sometimes I just want to break out the watercolours and markers and go crazy with real media. The lack of 'undo' is constantly terrifying, but the satisfaction of having an original piece of art absolutely makes up for all the stress! Finding a reason to draw something in real media is often difficult, though - I'm usually too busy at conventions to offer commissions at the con, and any commissions I take online tend to be digital.

And then I discovered Art Cards! There are two sorts very popular with artists at the moment, and both are hitting the convention scene with great success. ACEO (Art Cards Editions and Originals) are tiny 2.5" x 3" trading card sized pieces of art. I first discovered them after seeing the lovely Anastasia's table at Exeter Comic Con last year. She had a binder with pages and pages of wonderful cards, themed after her favourite games and movies and shows. She showed me the ropes and I love the challenge of drawing on such a tiny canvas.

A lot of artists, especially fanartists, are also turning to larger A6 'sketch cards' or 'marker cards'. I think the fabulous Karen Hallion probably had something to do with that! I decided to give it a go myself, as an excuse to keep the real media flowing between digital work! I'm also using it as an excuse to draw lots of things I love but just haven't found time to draw yet! Expect a lot of Disney, I'm sure. :)

Here's my very first batch of A6 marker cards!
Twilight and Stitch sold already but the other three can be found over on my Etsy! I'm hoping to have a huge batch available before the convention rush in May. They're kind of totally addictive!
